The Unicorn and the Wyvern by sighthoundlady The Unicorn and the Wyvern by sighthoundlady
Inspired by the Firebringer Trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce.

In the books, the Wyvern drove the unicorns from their ancestral home many years ago. There is a part though where the unicorns come upon a few Wyvern who lack stinging barbs they want only peace with the unicorns and the unicorns spare them. This is my take on that scene. These are no particular characters from the book, I just really wanted to color a blue dapple unicorn with purple hair.

Line art of the unicorn is in the Coloring Book:

Beautiful piece! However, wouldn't that be a Wrym instead of a Wyvern? Wyverns are dragons without forearms, where as Wryms are like snakes. Either way, I love this <3<3<3

That's how I see the wyverns too - they have that ruff of gills like a mudpuppy behind their eyes and jaw. Very nicely done! The unicorn is beautiful as well... I'm a total sucker for dapples. *G*

Thanks! Dapples are a challenge. And I’ve been wanting to draw a Wyvern for a while now. I used my snake for inspiration…

I use all sorts of textures in my pieces, I find that using different one’s for different parts of the picture gives it more interest say then slapping one texture over the entire piece. I use free textures from online and ones I’ve photographed myself. The grungy envelope I found here on DA here:

Thanks ^_^

I don’t do commissions usually, but if you had something particularly appealing subject wise I might be tempted. I usually charge by the amount of time a piece takes me. Simple character pieces with minimal backgrounds usually run around $100 and it goes up from there with the complexity of the piece. You can note me with your idea if you’re interested and I’ll let you know if it’s something I can do.
