Death and Taxes

Journal Entry: Mon Jul 27, 2009, 7:40 AM
So was having a little “fun” with math, calculating how much I work simply to pay my taxes.

If I work 5 days a week, over 1 and 1/3 days of that is spent earning money to pay taxes.

If I work 6 days a week, over 1 and 2/3 days of that week is spent earning money to pay taxes.

If I work 30 days in a month, over 8.1 days of it is spent earning money to pay taxes.

Interesting, no?

Actually it just makes me cry a little.  Today I’m going to work.  The ENTIRE 10 hour day will be worked TO PAY TAXES.

Hurry up and grow up, kiddies, ya gots to pay your taxes!

  • Mood: Tired
  • Playing: Life. Not the game.

Yeah... at least here in Canada I get a lot back for it in public services and health care. Free doctoring for the win!

The saddest part is how income tax only goes to pay the debt on government loans from the Federal Reserve. Other taxes pay for the above.

It's quite sick really.

Yeah, I think 1/3 of my pay goes to retirement, medical insurance, and taxes. Shame. :XD:

I gotta point out that I'm one of the what, 50 million?, people in America that cant afford healthcare. I can either choose to pay my mortgage or for health coverage. I've also never been able to go to college (couldn't afford it) I'd probably not mind paying higher taxes if things like education and health care were provided for me by the government.

And I'm from Denmark. Roughly 40 % of my pay goes to taxes. And as a low income person I get off easy. ;)

I wouldn't want to change it, though. I like the perks this give. Like my free university education. :)

Oh yeah, besides my education I also was rather sick for a long period of time. If I'd been from the US I'd probably be in boundless debts by now.
I very much prefer paying a high percentage of my salary instead, while knowing that other also will have the benefits I've had for those money. If I ever start to complain about paying taxes I should be shoot for hypocrisy. I've most certainly experienced the benefits of this system already. ;)
